I'm building out a box that will be a target in a security assessment, and I explicitly want a kernel vulnerable to old exploit packs. I'm comfortable going into the kernel source and undoing a patch that resolves a CVE, but I generally need the kernel version to be corrcet. For example, the 2.6.31 perf_counter bug - I need to use the 2.6.31 kernel in addition to undoing the security patch .
I've tried full-nelson.c but it doesn't work out-of-the-box and I don't have the time or skills to correct it. half-nelson.c only works on x64, and I annoyingly have been unable to figure out the correct kernel modules to get gentoo to run on x64 inside VMWare (windows host). (That's another problem, I've tried an awful lot though.)
So I had my sights set on 2.6.31 and the enlightenment pack. But gentoo-sources-2.6.31-r* has been removed (back in April). Is there any way to get portage to find and use it anyway? Or is even the distfiles gone from the servers? |

Moved from Portage & Programming to Duplicate Threads. There are about a zillion posts on this and closely related topics. Search "attic".
Since you're interested in source code with less patches, you might also want to target vanilla-sources instead of gentoo-sources.
