|
|
VERY VERY Basic description
[blocks B ] app-emulation/vmware-player ("app-emulation/vmware-player" is blocking app-emulation/vmware-server-2.0.2.203138-r4)
[blocks B ] app-emulation/vmware-server ("app-emulation/vmware-server" is blocking app-emulation/vmware-player-3.1.4.385536)
when emerging vmware-modules-238.4
As far as I see vmware-modules depends on vmware-player or workstation.
I have been using vmware-server happily but It seems I cant use it anymore, my main question is:
this is a headless computer with no X or any other fancy window stuff, can I replace vmware-server with player and still have the fancy web UI? or will it be gone if I unmerge vmware-server and go with player or workstation
I see that I can use vmware-modules-208.2 with vmware server, is it the only solution? Or are there any other alternatives that will allow me to move the VMs from vmware to them?
Thanks |

I suggest moving from vmware-server (not anymore mantained for quite some time) to virtualbox/kvm, whatever you prefer. |

why? vmware-player does excellent work. why should he compromise? (guessing he doesn't need 3d much) _________________ Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity and I'm not sure about the former - Albert Einstein |

He explains that is using a headless machine, with a remote console, and vmware-player/workstation are more oriented to desktop. I do not have experience trying these vmware products to work headless on the other hand.
On kvm there is virt-manager, and there is a web console for virtualbox. |

I think that headless is supported in the non free version of workstation (I don't think there is a free version of workstation thought) _________________ Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity and I'm not sure about the former - Albert Einstein |

Last time I used workstation, it was a paid product without free version, maybe there exists a trial, but I do not think a free version is out there =( |
