aren't all usable Gentoo systems modified?

Very cool! They probably use Gentoo, since they need a highly customized distro, and Gentoo provides a great toolset for rolling your own distro. :)

I think in this case it means that they modified source code at the kernel level, although your point is valid in that all Gentoo systems are modified (try to think of two people having the same configuration, unlikely)

What Stock Exchange was it again, that first spent millions of '£' into MS server and then switched to Linux for reliability? :roll:
