I haven't done that much testing with sna yet, but I have noticed that when the screen resolution changes, the backlight gets forced down to its lowest level and I have to turn it back up. This is with the 2.18.0 intel driver but it has happened in the past as well. So far, everything else seems fine.

Edit: This is with a Thinkpad x220, with Sandy Bridge graphics.

I recently upgraded my laptop to a system with an i965 chip: SNA works with no problems as yet.

On an intel i915 with USE="sna" I can open pdfs with zathura and mupdf without any problems.
As a side note, I suggest to use compton instead of xcompmgr, at least it doesn't have memory leak ;)

If you notice any display corruption or other strange behaviour, it is a good idea to report this on https://bugs.freedesktop.org/ (if no report already exists). You may also want to test latest git using the live ebuild from the x11 overlay.

I expect that Intel will drop the old acceleration method sooner or later, somewhat depending on how many issues with sna they are aware of.

Hopefully not too soon. I just got rid of some awful display corruptions in firefox by replacing sna with uxa. looks like https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42426 . I wouldn't recommend to enable sna by default for now.
