Ok, so I compiled module parallel port support. I'm a bit of a n00b to devfs, but my understanding was when the module is loaded, the /dev/lp0- becomes /dev/lp0. (??)
I'm trying to get the parallel connX to my epson c60 recognized by cups, but it gives me every choice except parallel.
any ideas?
tia,

A longshot... are parallel ports enabled in the BIOS? _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

I have in my /dev directory:
Code: |
crw------- 1 root root 99, 0 Jul 23 08:56 parport0
crw------- 1 root root 99, 16 Jul 23 08:56 parport16
crw------- 1 root root 99, 32 Jul 23 08:56 parport32
crw------- 1 root root 99, 48 Jul 23 08:56 parport48
|
I don't have a Parallel printer (anymore.. last one I had was a dotmatrix that worked in slackware) but I do have a parallel port.
I have the modules loaded and it gives this:
Code: |
parport_pc 12420 0 (unused)
parport 13856 0 [parport_pc]
|
My dmesg says this (where it loaded the parallel port):
Code: |
parport0: PC-style at 0x378 (0x778) [PCSPP(,...)]
parport0: irq 7 detected
|
Does your dmesg say anything like that? That would be the prime indicator of there being a bios configuration problem. |

Just got done configuring CUPS for my HP.
Check your kernel config for parallel printer support under character devices.
It isn't enabled by default and is easy to miss if you go charging through a kernel compile.
After I re-compiled, parallel port #1 showed up in the CUPS config menu. _________________ Windows = a 32 bit extension to a 16 bit GUI on an 8 bit OS written for a 4 bit architecture by a 2 bit company who can't stand 1 bit of competition. |
