|

Hi all,
I recently tried to run a rom under advancemame and, unfortunately, while it used to work, now I get the following error message.
| Code: |
AdvanceMAME - Copyright (C) 1999-2003 by Andrea Mazzoleni
MAME - Copyright (C) 1997-2003 by Nicola Salmoria and the MAME Team
Invalid (erroneous pitch) SDL overlay.
video_init failed
|
Mind, this only happens with some roms and not others, so it's not clear to me what is going on.
Any help would be appreciated.
Best,
Alex |

| Has SDL been updated maybe? Or perhaps you've specified improper video settings in your configuration? (save off the config file in advancemame's hidden directory under ~/ and let it create a new one maybe) I've always had problems with AdvanceMame though, I've always found sdlmame to be a bit better maintained. |

Hi,
I switched to sdlmame which seems to work, though only with one rom. Any other rom I tried comes back with the error:
"The selected game is missing one or more ROM or CHD" images.
I will try installing an earlier version of SDLMAME (.136), but is there some easy way to update ROMS?

| if you run it from the shell it should tell you what files are missing, if it was running in advancemame they're installed somewhere on your system and you just need to copy those files over, or point sdlmame to the directory they're in. |

Well, upon installing sdlmame the old files are no longer on the HDD. I thus obtained the roms again. In this one case, it's asking for 51xx.bin and 54xx.bin which don't seem to be in the .zip file for the rom.
Best,

IIRC those are generic chip roms for the arcade boards, and not specific to any games (much like the neogeo bin file) and simply need to be put in your installs "roms" path (not in the games zip). You can either download and install them seperately, or if it was working with advancemame it should be in it's .tar.gz file if you still have it in /usr/portage/distfiles (if not, you can tell portage to download it for you, which is way lazier than downloading it manually, with emerge --fetchonly advancemame )
