Welcome.
How to install Gentoo can be found in the Handbook.
I suggest you read that first.
Gentoo install takes much more time than binary distro's like *buntu.
Use the rescuecd in my sig.
Gerard.

To install Gentoo I use sysrescuecd.Based on Gentoo, has firefox to browse Gentoo docs and mc to browse (and edit) files.
The same disk can be used for 32 and 64 bit installs.
You can follow the Handbook verbatim.

The Gentoo Handbook. Look right here. Also, you might want to look around on the Gentoo home page.

yes you can install it with the handbook. To get an working ext4 filesystem, you only have to format your harddisk with the mkfs.ext4 tool.
Its the fourth chapter in the handbook: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-amd64.xml?full=1#book_part1_chap4
Replace the mke2fs -j with mkfs.ext4

All of these answers will become obvious to you as you work through the Handbook to the end. The other suggestion I made to you was to look around the home page. That would've led you to The GNOME Configuration HOWTO. However, this documentation will only make sense after you've made your way all the way through the Handbook. Don't try to get things out of order.
