I recently noticed that if I allow thunderbird to play a wav sound alert for new message, the entire program (I mean thunderbird ) will be frozen for a moment while it is playing the sound. I cannot switch tabs, cannot type in editing area, basically the entire thunderbird loses response as long as the wav sound is not over. This even affects other programs. While thunderbird playing the sound, if I drag another program's window, there will be significant lag until the sound is over.
Is this my own problem or thunderbird's defect?
Thanks. |

For playing any sound email notification Thunderbird definitely needs media-sound/esound.
So I would expect an esound USE flag as runtime dependency for supporting the sound notification. |

Hey, does anyone know if this is still relavant on thunderbird-17.0.2??
I am having no sound / notification issues, and trying to figure out if there is some hidden dependency i'm missing..
PS: esound is long since dead i think.. and I am NOT going to install pulseaudio just to use this..
Thanks!! any tips would be great! |

esound is no longer used by Thunderbird: see esound replacement?
Do you have libcanberra installed? (And is the libnotify USE flag set in Thunderbird, as I think that also has a bearing on this?) _________________ Fitzcarraldo's blog |
