I dunno if this is the correct forum for this, but...
When I did 'emerge ogle', it installed fine, but wouldn't play anything, giving the error "ogle_ao_open not taken". I emailed the Ogle developers to ask what was up, and they said that it seemed like OSS support wasn't compiled into ogle.
Well, I unmerged the ogle package and compiled it from source manually, without using the --disable-oss flag in the configure, and it worked perfectly.
Why does the ogle ebuild use --disable-oss by default? |

I think the problem may lie in your USE variable in /etc/make.conf...
If you don't explicitly set USE to contain "oss", then maybe it doesn't. I'm not sure.
Also, if you're explicitly (or even implicitly due to the defaults) specifying something like "alsa" or "esound" or "arts", then those might be overriding Ogle's sound output.
If USE="oss" doesn't fix it, then I'd say it's probable that Ogle's ./configure is detecting esound, arts, etc. and then not building support for OSS because of it. _________________ Even a stopped clock gives the right time twice a day. |
