df says that my newly partitioned /dev/sda7 has already benn used 6G .
I'm confused. I'm just on the stage "Prepare your disk". |

I assume you formatted it with ext3 or ext4. in that case the those 6G are the journal.
The other reason for not showing the full free space, is the reserve disk space with is by default 5%. but this is only visible indirectly, and the used, free and total space numbers do not add up.

The dumpe2fs -h utility can tell you the space reserved for misc things.
As Veldrin already wrote, space for the journal and the space reserved for admin are the two most important.
But you also get space for inodes, superblocks, badblocks etc...
Of course all these are tunable. And you surely want to tune this if you are using SSDs and want to make more with your money. (See mke2fs) _________________
