okay, i'm running virtual pc, and just finished installing gentoo. i'm having some issues with eth0, but that's not what this post is about.
anyways, whenever i switch to another window from virtual pc, it makes a new login prompt appear in gentoo. if i login again, and then switch to a different window (i.e. to these forums to scroll down) it'll do it again. now it gets weirder, if i just switch back and forth repeatedly, it'll switch between the login prompt, the original login, and the second login, almost like multiple desktops. i want this to STOP. i'm trying to fix this thing, and it's making it a pain in the ass, and i can tell it would give me further nightmares after i get things running as well. i never had this problem in red hat + VPC, so i'm thinking gentoo has some weird setting enabled that red hat did not. |

i just followed the install guide. you need to use modprobe tulip to get the initial net connection for installation. or do you mean VPC itself can't find the network card?
and the problem i had with gentoo went away on it's own. weird. |

i installed kde yesterday, but can't really comment on it just yet, it's having some resolution issues. but if i was forced to comment, i'd say it's as good as it was in RH 7.3 |

There sure are. I posted to the forum in vain a while back about getting stuck where the install calls for chrooting just prior to rsyncing. I always get a segmentation fault on chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash. And I'm running VPC 5.04 too (on MacOS 9.2). So... how'd ya do that?!
Thanks. |

I can't rsync either. What I meant to say is that attempting to chroot is unsuccessful and consequently I cannot proceed to the next step: emerge rsync.
Please clue me into "vmswitch" -- what/where it is. I've been using Virtual PC for several years and don't recall this setting and seached the User Manual and online help but there isno such term. |

emerge rsync worked but bootstrap dies with a lot of segfaults
if you get yours installed let me know im temporarily putting this
aside. |
