i am trying to edit the .profile file for the users because on my current system i have 2 users and i want to give them permissions to startx and stuff like that. The thing is that i do not have a profile file in the home directory for the users and i was trying to create one. So i open one up with nano and after i'm finished and i try to save it it gives me an error saying that the file cannot be opened for writing. Does anybody know what the problem is
Thx a lot |

What user are you running as when you try to edit the files and does that user have write permission on the directory in question? _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

Do the user directories exist and have proper permissions? Did you have a "-m" flag in useradd when you created the user?
You can also change /etc/profile to make your changes "global" to all users. |
