I am trying to install Gentoo on a Gateway Solo 1200 (specs below) and keep hanging at this point:
usb.c: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 1
I've turned off legacy usb support in the BIOS but dont know what else to do.
specs:
Celeron 800
VIA PN133T Twister Chpset
S3 Savage 4 APX
Conexant SmartAMC modem
VIA NIC (built-in)
Agere Systems ORINOCO wireless (built-in) |

Gateway user
Looks informative, but unless you luck out by finding someone w/exact same outfit,
self-help somtimes works (intil I try it, that is )
Too vague - at what stage, using what version, installing how - do troubles start.
Try to post error messages, not descriptions.
Start via >> http://www.linuxhq.com<< for kernel docs.
Gentoo has FAQ's, home page left side may help , & mirror readme's on
contents of ea. release another possibility.
Try a forum or google search
( - how to apply USB support, modular or compiled - for your hardware ?)
USB is seldom a problem for install, is it needed for Modem or NIC ?
See also >> http://www.linuxhq.com/ldp/hoto/Ethernet-HOWTO-4.html# <<<
Post results Good luck.

(actually registered now)
I'm using the stage 1 1.2 x86 image of Gentoo. When it boots with the CD it uncompresses the image and starts its sequence of displaying the hardware and drivers and then it hits the USB. It then stops at: usb.c: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 1
I have done a search on the forums and googled a fair amount but nothing has surfaced this far. _________________ There is no knowledge that is not power. |

Not too neat
Unclear, is it hangup, loss of control so repower is needed, yet no error messages ?
Sorry about those links, did not try them when submitting reply.
If of any help, " linuxhq.com " is basic linking, web will autofill address.
Was MD5sums checked before burn - try CD in another machine to verify no
fault in burn ?
To fill in background, what O/system was on this outfit prior to install attempts.
No earlier oddities in useage - is this built-in CD drive ?
If seemingly dumb questions, forestall via sufficient verbosity etc
