Hello,

i created a stage4 archiv from one of my two PC's, to install gentoo on my second PC in an easy manner. Everything works fine, the intel-hda soundcard included.

For fun, i tried alsaconf. But alsaconf don't find my soundcard even though my soundcard work's proper. So my soundcard works with the old configuration from the first PC (with intel-hda as well), but i can't reconfigurate it, because alsaconf find nothing.

I installed the sound-modules in the way "NeddySeagoon" explained it in this article http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-842411-start-50.html (The third entry on this page). The only option i didn't use is
Code:
[*]   Support old ALSA API

Thanks in advance and best regards
Gerold

PS: Excuse my english

Ignore alsaconf, it's not needed. It hasn't recognized my soundcards for many years.

GOS I too have had many problems with the ALSA intel-hda driver. Not sure what it is but it doesn't recognize my hardware either. But as PaulBreadbury said udev might be able to configure your hardware automagicly so try starting alsa without running alsaconfig and see what happens.

It is more robust to see what hardware is actually seen by your system using aplay, amixer, and arecord

Hello again,

@ <3 and PaulBredbury: Does this mean, that alsaconf is a bit out-dated, because udev manage these things now ??!

@ dmpogo: aplay doesn't work, but mpg123, audacious, totem, timidity++ and vlc work well!

Thanks for your answers!

Aplay does not work ? Are you sure you use ALSA for sound at all, and not OSS ?

Hello again,

yes, I am sure: ALSA is in use. But, what i said above wasn't correct. I tested again and aplay works with .wav files, but not .mp3 files. So aplay has the ability to play something, but not mp3. I think, that isn't a problem of ALSA or of the soundcard at all.

When I posted the lines above, i tested aplay only with .mp3 and because of this i thought that it want play. (Excuse me!)

Bye GOS

aplay can't play mp3's at all. I more thought about aplay -l which give you list of devides or aplay -L

Hello,

Ok, this was a missunderstanding! aplay -l or -L shows all sound devices correctly, like it sould be. The only programm that doesn't recognize the sound-hardware is alsaconf.

Bye
