the last or last couple packages are "virtual" dependancies, i have nothing to link these to currently, i am working on this. thanks for the input thou.
The site still needs many many more comments, over 180 registerd users now but only 60 comments. kindof a catch 22 with the comments, no one will add any until they see what other people have put. oh well.
back to working on virtual deps and hard masked packages. _________________ Gentoo-Portage.com - Where the portage meets the web

Hey, I added comments for whatever packages I could...
As for the dependencies, I'm sort of using my own submitted ebuilds for reference (xmms-midi being one) .. I don't recall timidity++ ever being a virtual dependancy. |

the comments code was not directed at you personlly
ok yeah i see it now, im attempting to debug it, it seems to be a problem with my import scrip, this may take a while to check, it takes 25 min for my script to run/ _________________ Gentoo-Portage.com - Where the portage meets the web

ok i determined the problem and it should be fixed within the hour. under xmm-midi the dependancy is capialized, bit the actuall package is not, i did not case in for that... it is now however. you just need to wait for the current portage update to finish. _________________ Gentoo-Portage.com - Where the portage meets the web

Over the last couple days I have released a couple features to the site, and one im sure people have really been looking forward to:
Dependencies are now linked
Reverse Dependencies, see what might depend on a package before you remove it (I've been getting alot of requests for that one)
Hard Masked Packages have now been cased for and are shown in the portage tree
A couple small bugs have been fixed, and the import script has been cut down from 35 min to 25 min.
Currently there is little planned additions to the site, if you have any suggestions, feel free to let me know.
*Status Update*
200+ accounts have been created
75+ comments have been added
300+ packages are being tracked by various people
~ let's see some more comments people. _________________ Gentoo-Portage.com - Where the portage meets the web

The Future of Gentoo-Portage.com:
I know I have not come out with anything as of late, I thought i should explain why. There are two reasons, one being that i have been working on a proof-of-concept for gentoo-update.com, and second i have been asked by the great powers are gentoo.org to do a little work for them.
I will not get into the gentoo work just yet, but as for the gentoo-update.com proof-of-concept... I have been looking into technologies and ways of creating an on-line script to install gentoo on a remote system using a php front end. this tech will most likely be too insecure for the WWW, but could easily be applied as an intranet solution. I am also thinking of a way to update gentoo via the WWW, similarly to windows-update, but better. i hope to have more information for you people shortly.
On a related note, i am looking for a programmer who would be able to create a browser plug-in to facilitate the update process. If anyone is interested could you please email me: gentoo-update@gentoo-portage.com. |
I was just windering is anyone would be interested in testing such a script if i am able to do it?, alpha testing on spare machines and such.
aswell i was wondering is anyone in the forum would be able to help with / program a browser plug-in. _________________ Gentoo-Portage.com - Where the portage meets the web

i will help with testing. i always have a few machines around in various states of repair. i have an interest in using gentoo in a charity lab environment. Is there any benefit or worth in considering writing a webmin plugin for portage? COuld inherit a lot of security/UI. |

Suggestion for the USE flags list :
Maybe you should show what flags are on by default and which are off.

Yes, it is a very good site. I use the HowTo section of the Wiki almost daily. If for no other reason, just to reference a command I was unsure of. Both websites are an excellent resource that I have come to depend upon. Thanks for all the hard work! _________________ My Folding@home Stats!

interesting....
one minor suggestion that would be nice i see it says like last update at
some:time GMT
would it be possible to add it so that users can specify in their preferences their local time so it would display in their time zone instead |

oh hey I added a nice list of "unlisted" USE flags if anyone is interested, these use flags are not listed anywhere but here, not even in ufed
http://gentoo-portage.com/use.php (scroll to the bottom)
people should submit a few hundred bugs and get these added to use.dec _________________ Gentoo-Portage.com - Where the portage meets the web

Those "unlisted" USE flags are documented in /usr/portage/profiles/use.local.desc. |

ah, thats new.. and a horrible way to do it I might add, i'll have to see about integrating these into the site somehow.
Well I think the USE flag listing system seeds to be re-done personally. _________________ Gentoo-Portage.com - Where the portage meets the web

I noticed that you are going to put a banner on the site. This seems like a fine idea to me. (I use adblock for firefox, so I probably won't see it anyway)
Another idea you may consider is putting up donation button. I would be inclined to give a little something to a site that has provided so much help, even if it is just a few bucks.
Just an idea for you. _________________ My Folding@home Stats!

Just posting to announce that we will start accepting screenshots, it seems that the ad has been well received enough to cover my bandwidth plaus a little extra. so I thought why not use up that extra.
so everyone come post your screenshots of your favorite programs. people always want a screenshot of a program, now you have a place to put them.
Hope everyone enjoys this feature, I know I will _________________ Gentoo-Portage.com - Where the portage meets the web

What should really be done is host screenshots for the monthly posting. Put them in a format with explanations and links to the themes etc. along with any comments. That will keep me and many other from wading through way too long threads. An organization of these screenshots would gain my interest and others and make it easier to get new ideas. |

well what I might do is something like this, each user gets a page where they can post X number of screenshots, links to their favorite programs, talk about their desktop etc.. and allow others to comment on it.
what would you think of something like that? I want to make sure people would actually use that. _________________ Gentoo-Portage.com - Where the portage meets the web
