With the fbsd's ports system, you can also use binary packages to install stuff like kde that needs a huge ammount of time before it's compiled (and I hate waiting )
I mean the eg "pkg_add -r fluxbox" command...
Is there a similar thing in gentoo? from the manual I think you can only install something by compiling it or did I read over something? |

There are no pre-compiled binary packages available for Gentoo. (save for some one-off exceptions, like OpenOffice and stuff on the Stage 3 ISO)

Lest this turn into another slug-fest of "yes it should" and "no it shouldn't", the issue of including pre-compiled binaries in Gentoo has already been discussed plenty.
(not aimed at you, =X¥®µ§=. Just stating it in general since I know how quickly these threads can degrade. )

Yes, you can install precompiled .tbz2 packages. This is specifically mentioned in one of the FAQs somewhere for sysadmins of multiple machines. I don't have a Gentoo box in front of me to man emerge, but it's in the manual pages, I think. |

Correct -- that's what the '-b' option is for emerge. But the point is you still have to compile those packages, at least once. There are no pre-compiled packages readily available for Gentoo.
