Hi There. I'm new to Gentoo and I'm still in the installation steps.
I have this problem now : whatever I want to merge, be it the smallest filesystem utils,
checking at first with emerge --pretend, emerge spits 200 packages and ends with the following Error :
Circular dependencies gcc and two others. The make.profile points to desktop. Is this related somehow ? |

How many packages depends on what exact command you are using. You are most likely using -u and -N, as well as -D after having done a --sync already.
In that case it would be normal, since -u means --update, -D means --Deep, and -N means --newuse. _________________ Brian

/var/db/pkg is empty
I'm in chroot of /mnt/gentoo
emerge --pretend busybox
spits a very long list featuring all sort of package, X11libs, sys-devel, perl-core, whatever...
ending with
* Error:circular dependencies
(sys-devel/gcc)
(sys-libs/glibc)
(sys-devel/gcc) |

Please post "emerge --info" and you didn't say which stage3 you used. |
