[SOLVED] Latest version of VTE break gnome-terminal

Post by nukem996 » Sun May 01, 2011 7:26 pm

Last night I did an update which updated VTE. Now whenever I open gnome-terminal I get the following message

Code: Select all

*** VTE ***: Failed to load terminal capabilities from '/etc/termcap'
While I can still type in the terminal I can't use the enter key, which makes the terminal pretty useless. Anyone know whats wrong?

Thanks,

nuke

I had a hassle with vte falling over looking for libffi.so.5,which is not in my system. So I created a link to it & libffi.so.6.0.0.
This fixed the compile problem. but methinks some one could take a look at vte-0.28.1-r300 and cure the call to this lib ,also -r200 has the same hassle.
libffi.so.5 probably has been removed,on a previous depclean.

There is no need to reboot though, make sure you close all running instances of your terminal before starting a new one and it should be fine too.

Just a confirmation. I hit the same issue with VTE and PoOky is right. No need to reboot...just close all open terminals and everything works again.
