wine & directx problems

I've installed directx 9.0c however when i execute:
wine ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/dxdiag.exe

I get this error:

Is there a reason you wish to use dxdiag? I don't think that utility works with Wine. In addition, you should probably use winetricks to install just the d3dx9 dlls, rather than the entire Directx9 installer as it may cause issues (and will take up unnecessary space). Finally, the built in DLLs for D3D9 under wine are actually pretty good these days; you might not even need to install any d3dx9 dlls at all, depending on the game (if that's what you are trying to do)

When running neverwinter nights 2 through wine one of the most helpful

modifications to get the game to run was setting both devenum and dxdiag to disabled

in the DllOverrides section.
