Hello all,

For some reason, I am unable to get CUPS to print. When I emerge it with the usb USE flag, it doesn't recognise my printer. When I emerge it without the usb USE flag, my printer is recognised, but won't print. I have a Dell 3000cn, and it used to be fine on my former machine. On my new machine, though, I go to print, it queues the job, but then immediately says "stopped" under the job state.

Here's the information about the printer from CUPS:

Code:

Description:   Dell Colour Laser Printer 3000cn
Location:
Driver:   Generic PCL 6/PCL XL Printer Foomatic/pxlmono (color, 2-sided printing)
Connection:   usb://Dell/Laser%20Printer%203000cn
Defaults:   job-sheets=none, none media=na_letter_8.5x11in sides=one-sided

and the information about my CUPS installation:

Code:

# emerge -av cups

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild   R   ] net-print/cups-1.4.6  USE="X acl dbus jpeg ldap pam png ssl threads tiff -debug -gnutls -java -kerberos -perl -php -python -samba -slp -static-libs -usb -xinetd" LINGUAS="-da -de -es -eu -fi -fr -id -it -ja -ko -nl -no -pl -pt -pt_BR -ru -sv -zh -zh_TW" 0 kB

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB

Any ideas on where to further troubleshoot?

Cheers,
Nathan Zachary

Anything in dmesg or CUPS log file?

I can't think of a lot of other things to check, other than perhaps running cupsd in a terminal and seeing if it throws off any messages.

Thanks for the help. I'm an idiot; I don't know how I missed this line in the logs:

Code:

E [31/Mar/2011:17:10:38 -0500] [Job 5] Unable to start filter "foomatic-rip" - No such file or directory.

Installed footmatic-filters and everything works as expected.

Thanks again,
Nathan Zachary

NathanZachary: Thanks for your post.

The same problem solved here too. Installing footmatic-filters helped (error message didn't tell if some package is missing). Thanks!

Regards,
Vode
