|
|
After my system has been up for a couple of days with nothing but some pretty standard services running, my memory becomes all used up (according to the TOP command). However, TOP shows nothing is using more than .5%, what gives? The memory is new, and was tested with memtest86 for several hours prior to using with zero failures. Could it be the memory that is the issue?
See below for the current running state:

Thank you, it looks like most of my memory is used up in cache and is marked as available cache, or "inactive". Is this normal?

I cleared the cache and my available memory went from 21Mb up to almost 900Mb. I take it based on what you just said, and what I read a few minutes ago, that linux will release any of the cached memory to any process that needs it.
This was informative. Thank you for your help, I will mark this thread as SOLVED. _________________ More ways to blow blood cells in your face
