Just curious if anyone knows of a (preferably but not necessarily, free and native) linux game that is multiplayer but has long pauses.
For example.. when you die in counter-strike you just have to wait while the other players finish the round. I like this because I can get up and do something while I'm dead or even do homework, or just browse websites or check email..
It would have to be multiplayer I think, I don't see a single player game having such long breaks.
Some strategy games have this I think but they are more like 1vs1... in those cases it is harder to walk away during a break because if you come back late accidentally you don't have a team that is already going when you get back like you do in counter-strike for example..
So... just let me know if you have any games in mind that might fit this description, thanks. |

| every quake 3 based game except tremulous has a game mode like that. for example, quake 3 itself has a "clan arena" mode where when you die you have to wait for the round to end. warsow has that mode aswell. urbanterror, quakelive, cube (i think). they all have a mode like this. also, like the guy above mentioned, hedgewars, really good game as well. |

Puh, playing two games at a time
This is one quality that I miss in recent MMORPGs, there is always stress. I used to be able to read a book while crafting in DAoC, in recent games you have to do minigames all the time rather than pressing a button (or pin it down with something and go to bed).
Eve-Online is quiet relaxing as a miner (though be careful of pirates). There are like 5-10min breaks until you cargo is full and you return to base. _________________ Gentoo on Uptime Project - Larry is a cow |

Game! makes pausing for long periods of time easy, but doesn't inherently have pauses. You get a limited number of actions per day, but you can make them whenever you want. _________________ Game! - Where the stick is mightier than the sword! |

Play a turn-based strategy game such as a game in the Civilization series. You can take as long as you want in a turn and can take a break/save and quit at any time.
FreeCiv is a good one.
Or, you could try a roguelike console-based game such as Nethack. A version of Nethack is accessible through 'tenet nethack.alt.org' or you can find Nethack in Portage. _________________ My Blog |

I often have around 4 games going but indeed, the 'botters' and such in some games tend to make the lives of the honest players more difficult and tedious all the time. :\
I wish the developers thought of it more, like that, one part of what is attractive in a MMO-game is that when you can have something going on (without cheating) and still do other things physically or with the gaming system itself. They should not make the user pay attention fully all the frickin' time.
Cheating in MMO-games I never really understood, well, I do in the scope of RMT, and the wants of a person to triumph over others but I could never feel satisfied to the least from gaining something via cheating in these games. For example having a 'bot' level a character up seems just ridiculous to me.
I wouldn't even care really, if they weren't the reason for making my life more tedious and annoying than it needs to be.
Ooops, sys_blabber_mode 0, here we go!
As for the topic, I can't really think of anything though I might look into some that others have mentioned here already. ^^ _________________ Kind Regards,
