All,
I would like to be able to shutdown squid (/etc/init.d/squid stop) via a web URL. Does anybody know if something exists like this, or do I need to write a CGI script or equivalent?
FWIW: Yes, I have an 8 year old son that needs some persuasion to GET OFF THE COMPUTER . |

The only way I believe this would be possible is to create a PHP page (or CGI, etc.). Since PHP runs on the server side you can have more control over the environment, and can execute such calls with system, exec, shell_exec, etc...
BTW - This is shameless self promotion, but I work on a distro for young kids called Kiddix. You might want to take a look at it. As a plus it is Gentoo at the core! PM me if you want any more details |
