I just installed vmware-server-2.0.2.203138-r4.
Then I tried to preconfigure it:

Code:

IgorsGentooOnNetwork igor # emerge vmware-server --config

Configuring pkg...

 * Running /opt/vmware/server/bin/vmware-config.pl
ldd: /opt/vmware/player/lib/bin/vmware-vmx: No such file or directory
This program previously created the file /etc/vmware/icu, and was about to
remove it.  Somebody else apparently did it already.

This program previously created the file /dev/vmnet1, and was about to remove

The configuration file /etc/vmware/vmnet1/dhcpd/dhcpd.conf already exists and
has been modified (possibly by you) since the last install. Would you like to
keep your version of the file instead of installing a new one? [no]

File /etc/vmware/vmnet1/dhcpd/dhcpd.conf is backed up to
/etc/vmware/vmnet1/dhcpd/dhcpd.conf.old.0.

The file /etc/vmware/vmnet1/dhcpd/dhcpd.conf that this program was about to
install already exists.  Overwrite? [yes]

Unable to copy the source file

I had vmware-player on this machine but un-installed it since it didn't want to play my VM.
I was thinking that installing server will help, but it failed to do initial setup.

For some reason it couldn't find file to run and then failed to copy some files.

And it is indeed the case:

Code:

IgorsGentooOnNetwork igor # ls -la /opt/vmware
total 16
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Apr 26 14:48 .
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Apr 26 13:31 ..
drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 4096 Apr 26 14:49 server
drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 Apr 26 13:31 vix

Could someone tell me how to fix all this? I downloaded the tar file from vmware download site...

Thank you.
