Hello,
currently i have:
- copied livecd contents to dedicated partition
- copied squashfs contents to /zisofs (Will this work? Info here seems rather old http://www.gentoo-wiki.info/HOWTO_LiveCD_on_disk )
Code: |
/dev/sda1 1 62 497983+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda2 * 63 124 498015 83 Linux
/dev/sda3 125 611 3911827+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/sda4 612 60801 483476175 83 Linux
on sda2:
boot gentoo.efimg gentoo.efimg.mountPoint isolinux livecd lost+found README.txt zisofs
|
- installed grub on hd0 and created grub.conf/menu.lst
Code: |
default 0
timeout 5
title=primordial soup
root (hd0,1)
kernel /isolinux/gentoo root=/dev/ram0 init=/linuxrc keymap=de looptype=zisofs loop=/zisofs cdroot acpi=ht dosshd initrd=gentoo.igz
initrd /isolinux/gentoo.igz
|
- created runlevels/boot/net.eth0 symlink - i have no idea if this is required but it seemed like a sensible thing to do
- created runlevels/default/sshd symlink - likewise, should be covered by dosshd
- added clientid to dhcpcd.conf since i believe it is required by the dhcpserver
- copied root password hash from rescue shadow to livecd shadow
unless anyone finds anything in the next hour or so, i will try to boot this.
will keep the thread updated and eventually provide a small howto

sono,
This sounds alfully complicated.
Install a 64 bit kernel that has support for 32 bit software. It will boot under your current install and things will work as normal.
Make a new partition for your Gentoo root and install Gentoo using your old install on top of your new 64 bit kernel.
There is no upgrade path from 32 bit to 64 bit as it would involve having parts of the toolchain 64 bit and other parts 32 bit, just while you made the transition. Such a toolchain is terminally broken. _________________ Regards,

Oh, i get it now.
Yes, that might be an option.
So basically since i would have a 64bit kernel, i could successfully chroot.
Never thought of that.
Anyway, i booted the above config anyway since i already have it and if i end up doing what you suggest, i would do a restore anyway. I got connection refused on the sshd so there's a IP stack up.. and it responds to pings.
I am quite tempted now, of course, to reboot into the rescue image and check the sshd config. If this works, it would still be kind of nifty. |

Couldn't get to an ssh connection. Assuming the zisofs trick doesn't work out and the box gets stuck with the initrd.
Overall, this seems awefully complicated
Now doing a quick 32bit install from the rescue system so i can build me a suitable kernel.
