Since my upgrade to kde-4.6 logging in and out is taking nearly forever and during the kde session upowerd is using 100% cpu constantly.
I searched the web but most found results stated it disappeared magically. In my case it does not :(

Anybody any ideas ?

Had the same problem. My laptop has hybrid graphics (Intel+NVidia). After switching off NVidia upower can't read VGA connector status. I think problem is how nouveau is handling connector status reading when card is switch off.

I have ATI + Intel and switch Intel off.
But downgrading to upower to version 0.9.5 solved the problem although I think downgrading is not really a solution ;)

I am having this issue now with 0.9.8, but only 0.9.8 and 0.9.9 are available. should I upgrade to 0.9.9 (is ~amd64, or whatever)
