I have started getting some native Linux games, and although pleasantly surprised with the native offerings, and how my Intel gma4500hd has been able to cope so far. I am getting missing models in the shadowgrounds games and enemy territory quake wars and think it is related to st3c, but its just a guess.

I have installed dev-libs/libtxc_dxtn from here https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=65607

Code:
glxinfo | grep s3tc
    GL_NV_texgen_reflection, GL_NV_texture_env_combine4, GL_S3_s3tc,
    GL_EXT_texture_compression_s3tc, GL_EXT_texture_env_dot3

Well, I'm hardly an expert on the entire line of Intel video chipsets, but my impression is that if you want decent gaming video, Intel just isn't the way to go. Nvidia seems to have excellent performance under Linux, though. ATI, maybe not so much, but there's mixed opinions on that. The hardware for both, though, are quite good in their late, high-end models.

Are those games 64bit or 32bit? If they're 32bit, you of course need a 32bit libxtc_dxtn library, which will be loaded by a 32bit mesa.

Those games are 32-bit only, so you're probably running on a terribly outdated mesa.
