Washington, Jan 16 (Prensa Latina) Italy and the administration of Barack Obama will back France's intervention in Mali, while the United States will not send ground forces, the press reported today.
The United States already provides intel to French troops and will briefly send transport aircraft to move troops and logistic materiel and provide aerial refuelling for French combat aircraft managing the zone.
The Pentagon is analyzing how far U.S. support can go in the French intervention without violating U.S. regulations or undermining the objectives of Washington's policy in this region.
Military support to Mali is prohibited by U.S. legislation ever since the current government took power through a coup, noted the Washington Post today.
On the other hand, the Italian government is providing logistic support to French troops taking part in the military operation in Mali, Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi said today. In Rome's case, the support is similar to that of European nations such as that of Spain, which backs Paris' action without involving military units, while the United Kingdom has put transport planes at France's disposal.
Six days after the beginning of the French military intervention in Mali, authorities are imposing restrictions on the media and the scarce pictures published so far show very little of what has happened in the battlefield.
So far the footage and pictures show "nothing but calm and serenity," according to Le Monde, which notes that journalists have not been able to leave Bamako and are only photographing the landing of planes, the disembarkation of troops and the training of soldiers.
Laurent Gervereau, President of the Institute of Images and editor of Decryptimages website, recalls that for propaganda reasons, the media have not been able to cover situations like the one in Mali ever since the Gulf War.

Bush is looking pretty good right now, ain't he. Of course, no supporter of Obama will ever admit they're wrong. _________________ lolgov. 'cause where we're going, you don't have civil liberties.

The U.S. was already doing everything mentioned there. NBC news also managed to neglect mentioning that fact, when they told the story tonight, making it look like Americans got taken hostage because the French were over there pissing people off and making trouble (like the U.S. doesn't have a whole Army Headquarters and a bunch of Special Forces in Africa coordinating the efforts to resist al Qaeda -- shhhh... don't tell any Obama Zombies; they think they elected Obama to do the opposite). _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.
