I edited /etc/make.conf to include the following... i pasted the contents of /etc/make.profile/make.defaults so i could very easily see the setting i was adding/subtracting from.
Code: |
# USE from /etc/make.profile/make.defaults ===================================
# USE="3dnow apm arts avi berkdb crypt cups encode gdbm gif gpm gtk imlib
# ipv6 java jpeg kde libg++ libwww mikmod mmx motif mpeg ncurses nls
# oggvorbis opengl pam pdflib png python qt qtmt quicktime readline sdl
# slang spell ssl svga tcpd truetype X xml2 xmms xv"
# ============================================================================
USE="-3dnow dga evo fbcon gnome gphoto2 imap ldap pcmcia perl pnp samba svga tetex tiff trusted"
|
I have a Pentium III so i don't need "3dnow"... hence the "-" in front... correct?
I plan on using KDE only but want to be able to run apps that use gnome libs... so do i need to include "gnome" like i have done?
This is my ibm thinkpad t22 laptop (512mb, 30gb hdd, 1ghz processor) i use every day for all things (trying to remove windows completely, but currently run w2kpro inside wmware so i can use linux/windows apps at the same time).
Would anybody make any changes to my USE options? recommendations? criticism? Any feedback is appreciated... thanks. _________________ Edward Alfert

This is correct.

This does not have to be done. I am pretty sure that your USE flags only compile support for something. If an ebuild says that a certain package will only work if you have a gnome library, then that library will be a required dependancy and will override your use flag settings. However, if an ebuild says, "I *could* be made to have support for gnome.." then your USE flags will take over from there. I'm pretty sure that's how it works, but would kinda like confirmation myself. Sorry, that's not more helpful. _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..
