What are those line of icons near the top? Are they iconified windows or launchers?

Hmm. I just checked the logs. X11 complained about a missing hsetroot/esetroot. Feh shouldn't need those, right?

Anyways my wallpaper didn't show for an eternity. Now that I emerged hsetroot I can set it manually with "feh --bg-scale $PATH", but it fails as before when setting it in .xinitrc

feh works here (has worked for ever) for viewing photos. Haven't tried setting root wallpaper since I don't need it.

I have to run my script with "DISPLAY=:0.0" prepended to the commando. That should help you.

No, forget it, it was something openbox related. Or to be exact if I want a trash-button in Thunar, I need to start openbox with a special command ... openbox-session blah blah ... :lol:

in the end that killed my wallpaper for some weird reason. But I can set it in .config/openbox/autostart too.

But that's actually a perfect example in what horrible shape Gentoo is for me ... that and the 10+ packages that refuse to compile for several months. I guess when the devs say "~" they really mean it now.
