|
|
this is a little quirky
i have gentoo 1.2 installed under vmware on win2k for testing
hdd is set to ide
x, kde etc etc are all working perfectly
2 partitions hda1 & hda3 are both xfs
hda2 is swap (i was following the install guide)
now on boot up i get dropped to the grub prompt so im forced to do
grub>kernel /bzImage
grub>boot
now whats really wierd is on boot up /hda1 never gets mounted
even though the entry exists in fstab
menu.lst is exactly as in the install guide
anyone ever run into this or have a workaround ?
thanks

Where is it supposed to be mounted? Is "noauto" specified? _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

In the default Gentoo install boot is not automounted. From what I read this should be "safer" and possibly more secure as well. Your problem should have nothing to do with the fact that boot is not mounted, grub can launch (obviously since you are actively doing it) without having the hda1 mounted. Try reinstalling grub and be sure that you set it up just like it outlines in the Install/Build guide. I had the same exact problem the very first time I installed Gentoo. All I did was redo all the steps for Grub in the Build Guide and that fixed it for me.
Hope that helps!!
