|
|
Hi,
I am having troubles with KDE after updating my box. After booting, KDE starts with the login screen but after I log in nothing shows up except the wallpaper. No KDE splash screen, no menu, no windows, etc. If I right click with the mouse no windows appears. I only have the mouse cursor working - that's it.
If I create a new user and login with this new user then everything works just fine. How can I get things working for my old user account?
Many thanks!

Hi muebi.
A shot in the dark:
At first, Backup your ~/.kde4/share/config/kwinrc
Then, copy the content of your working test user account from its kwinrc to your not working one, via cut an paste and retry.
If it works for you, you'll notice that your desktop looks like the standard desktop of your test user.
But you can set it again manually as your liking, but now the root cause for your trouble is clear.
If you don't want to set everthing by hand, try to exchange only the Compositing and blacklisting part of your test user kwinrc, after restoring your backed up file before.
Much success, Andy. _________________ If you want to see a Distro done right, compile it yourself! |

Try moving ~/.kde4 somewhere and see if it is still broken.
Also, try booting into a failsafe (=xterm) session and starting startkde by hand. It might give you some more information about what goes wrong. |

I tried to copy over the ~/.kde4 to the user that doesn't have working KDE but still the same problem.
Starting in Failsafe mode does not give any more information.
Clicking kde4.4 instead and log in gives an error window: "kstartupconfig4 does not exist or fails. The error code is 3. Check your installation".
Any ideas? |
