As of recently the PowerBook does take very long to boot. After powering up the screen stays black for about 15 seconds. Then yaboot apears and starts booting.
What could that be. Do I need to reset Open Firmware somehow? _________________ ppc:PowerBook5,8 15"(1440)-G4/1.67, 2G(dev.notes[pdf]) | amd64:Core2Duo | amd64-prefix:OpenSuse@Core2Quad | Lila-Theme

It could be waiting for the startup disk. Can you hear that the HD has spun up? Are you sure that the OF Path provided was correct? _________________ Gentoo PPC FAQ: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml |

Hm, don't know. I did not change it. This is part of my yaboot.conf with some old line disabled:
| Code: | boot=/dev/hda2
#device=/pci@f2000000/mac-io@17/ata-4@1f000/disk@0:
device=hd:
timeout=20
install=/usr/lib/yaboot/yaboot
magicboot=/usr/lib/yaboot/ofboot
partition=7
root=/dev/sda4
macosx=/dev/hda6 |
I also reset the PRAM and NVRAM, but no difference.
Today I thought, I have a bunch of USB devices meanwhile, about 7 devices on the hub. Next time I'll try with all USB disconnected. _________________ ppc:PowerBook5,8 15"(1440)-G4/1.67, 2G(dev.notes[pdf]) | amd64:Core2Duo | amd64-prefix:OpenSuse@Core2Quad | Lila-Theme |

Ok, got it.
With the whole USB tree unplugged, the boot is as fast as usual.
Eventhough there is no drive device only mouse, keyboard, sound, video, wlan. Maybe some device is buggy.. _________________ ppc:PowerBook5,8 15"(1440)-G4/1.67, 2G(dev.notes[pdf]) | amd64:Core2Duo | amd64-prefix:OpenSuse@Core2Quad | Lila-Theme |
