xine aborting with xiTK received SIGSEGV on wmv files

I'm running media-video/xine-ui-0.99.6 and media-libs/xine-lib-1.1.18.1. Recently...not sure what update caused it, just about every wmv file I try to play aborts with this:

The only references I can find to anything like this go back to 2005. Anyone else having this behavior?

xine-ui has been really annoying for me for some time frankly. One thing it's been doing for ages, and I've found no answer on this, is that when playing most xvid avi fies, if I fast forward to the highest speed (I think it's like 4x) I either can't stop it, or it takes a long time to stop it, as the ui seems to become unable to get keyboard input...drives me nuts. Anyone else see that sort of thing either?

I discovered that the ffmpeg upgrade from 0.5_p20373 to media-video/ffmpeg-0.6 is causing this. Downgrading fixed it. I also tried media-video/ffmpeg-0.6_p25423 (though I actually can't figure out if that newer or older than media-video/ffmpeg-0.6??) and that still gets the SIGSEGV abort.
