Hi

As of a few days ago, my laptop's built-in webcam suddenly stopped working. The webcam has worked since my last kernel/module recompilation or software update or installation, so I'm at a loss for what may have caused this to occur. Obviously this stuff doesn't happen by magic (that's why we use Gentoo!) but I have no idea what may have caused it. The odd thing is that it doesn't show up in /proc/bus/usb/devices anymore either. Its entry used to be:

Code:

T: Bus=02 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=05 Cnt=01 Dev#= 2 Spd=480 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=ef(unk. ) Sub=02 Prot=01 MxPS=64 #Cfgs= 1
P: Vendor=5986 ProdID=0300 Rev= 0.04
S: Product=BisonCam, NB Pro
C:* #Ifs= 2 Cfg#= 1 Atr=80 MxPwr=500mA
A: FirstIf#= 0 IfCount= 2 Cls=0e(video) Sub=03 Prot=00
I:* If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 1 Cls=0e(video) Sub=01 Prot=00 Driver=(none)
E: Ad=82(I) Atr=03(Int.) MxPS= 8 Ivl=2048ms
I:* If#= 1 Alt= 0 #EPs= 0 Cls=0e(video) Sub=02 Prot=00 Driver=(none)
I: If#= 1 Alt= 1 #EPs= 1 Cls=0e(video) Sub=02 Prot=00 Driver=(none)
E: Ad=81(I) Atr=05(Isoc) MxPS=3072 Ivl=125us

Now, my output is:

Code:

The only thing I can think of is that maybe somehow, internally the wire got disconnected? Is that likely? I really want to avoid having to open this thing up if it's a software/kernel/something-else issue.

Thanks,

Boot from some good liveCD and see if it is there. Just to make sure it is not software problem.
