Hey guys,
I've been wondering what package you people use for disk authoring. I've tried a few: xfburn, brasero, cdrtools(yep the command line program) but each have their own set of problems. brasero and cdrtools doesn't seem to allow multisession DVD+R burning, xfburn has a strange interface... I haven't used k3b yet, but since I use gnome, I'll have to install a lot of packages that I won't need otherwise.

I never found a GUI burner that I liked, so I use "bashburn". It's a nifty interactive command line tool that does pretty much anything very simply. Once you make a bashburn tmp directory somewhere, just make a link in there to whatever image or directory you want to burn and have at it. Works great.

My suggestion would be k3b. You can access all advanced functionality. But for basic burning, all you need to do is click on "burn", ignoring the rest of the options.
I haven't tried burning dvds but for normal data burning, it does multisession automatically.

I never had any problems with CDs. Just DVDs

@ronmon, I don't mind trying it out, but have you burned multisession DVD+R?

@ppurka, I was looking for alternatives, with k3b I would have to install a lot of dependencies (I use gnome)

For a console based tools, I have recently noticed 'cdw'. Looks quite neat and easier to use than bashburn, being ncurses based

Yes, bashburn does multi-session DVD+R. It is in portage, and a very quick emerge since it is really just a script, so you probably should just give it a try. There should be no dependencies that are not already installed.

ok, I'll try out Bashburn.... this is gonna freak out my Windows friends  .... if nothing goes I guess I'll just fall back to k3b

/edit1: Hey bashburn is cool, when I heard 'script' I didn't expect it to be this interactive.

Yep, it is highly intuitive and extremely easy to use. It is way better than any GUI app I have used. Thought you might like it.

No, I had nothing to do with the project. I'm just a satisfied user.
