I'm having trouble getting VLC working. It used to work but after a recent update (I'm not sure which) it has ceased to function. Whenever video or audio is opened it fails to play it silently.

Any ideas of what I can try? Also it segfaults when I quit, and for some reason can still play DVDs (the only thing that works) and mplayer appears to work fine (might just stick with that if fixing this becomes frustrating).

Doesn't work anymore here either. I do get audio however, just no video - was my goto player previously.

I don't use it anymore i have 1.1.0 now but it was working with

glibc versions were 2.11-r1, then 2.11.1 and it was working with both.

for gcc i'm sure, as my gcc version is mask and i only unmask it when i'm sure i wish another newer version.
Only thing i remember (and it's the same for vlc 1.1.0 but the ebuild told it for that version) is that i need to remove previous vlc version before building the 1.0.6.
I can provide portage version for the range when i got the 1.0.6 but it's less useful i think.
The big note: i use ~x86 by this time, that's of course could make a big diff with 64bits and maybe the ebuild could have change too when it switch to stable also.

Turning off accelerated video in preferences resolved the missing video issue.
