|
|
hey, so i just installed gentoo on my Asus P50IJ X2 laptop.
the install went more or less well, a few bumps, but one of the easier installs ive done. That is, until i tried to get X working...
I emerged xorg-server (ver. 1. and surprise, it didnt work right out of the box, but i cant even xorg -configure. This is the error i get when i try to configure xorg.conf:
Code: |
(EE) module ABI major version (6) doesn't match the server's version (7)
(EE) Failed to load module "intel" (module requirement mismatch, 0)
No devices to configure. Configuration failed.
|
i actually do have an xorg.conf from a previous version i tried, but im stumped as to where to go from here. Should i try emerging the new set of drivers.
also, my synaptics driver fails to load as well
aaand, it says "no screens found"
some system info so its not asked later :
running unstable
video card is Intel Mobile 4 series chipset integrated graphics controller
intell T440 dual core proc (64 bit)
4 gb ram
any other info requested i can prodive lickedy split _________________ Hacking is about curiosity, discovery and the acquisition of knowledge. No knowledge is not worth having. |

How about just rebuilding xf86-video-intel with oneshot?
Did you upgrade the xorg version? _________________ My blog |

Possible quick fix: Code: | emerge $(qlist -IC x11-drivers) |
If: Code: | grep -i evdev /usr/src/linux/.config | does not produce Quote: | CONFIG_INPUT_EVDEV=y | you need to add evdev support to the kernel
If: Code: | grep -i synaptic /usr/src/linux/.config | does not produce Quote: | CONFIG_MOUSE_PS2_SYNAPTICS=y | and Quote: | CONFIG_MOUSE_SYNAPTICS_I2C=y | you need to add synaptics support to the kernel.
If: Code: | grep -i evdev /etc/make.conf | does not produce Quote: | INPUT_DEVICES="evdev synaptics" | you need to edit make.conf to add evdev and synaptics to INPUT_DEVICES="
If: Code: | grep -i hal /etc/make.conf | does not produceyou need to edit make.conf to add hal to USE="
Have you emerged a display manager/window manager/desktop? If not you should so there is something to see when X works.
check /etc/conf.d/xdm for Quote: | DISPLAYMANAGER="your choice of display manager" | and /etc/rc.conf for Quote: | XSESSION="your choice of desktop/window manager" |
if using openrc and baselayout2, check that /etc/env.d/90xsession contains XSESSION="your choice of desktop/window manager"
Then run: Code: | emerge -uND dbus hal udev xorg-server gentoolkit $(qlist -IC x11-drivers)
rc-update add dbus default
rc-update add hald default
rc
startx |
