I used Amarok-1.x for almost all my music needs for many years. I've finally ditched kde-3 and I'm now looking for another app that will make it easy for me to transfer music to my mp3-players. I need transcoding to mp3 from ogg and flac.

There seems to be half a dozen apps for playing my music files but I don't know of any besides the older Amarok that make it real easy to transfer (and transcode if needed) files to mp3-players.

Thanks. I'd seen gtkpod but I use plain old players that look like a usb drive to the OS. I can' believe I'm the only person here who uses them.

this works ok for me for cli transcoding: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=210042

I actually went in and changed the lame command to V0 right in the perl script because by default the script uses one of the predefined lame presets which I don't personally like.

My only problem was that some of my tags didn't transfer ... but I think that was because they were version 1 ... but I'm not sure on that.

Thanks. I'm using Gnome's SoundConverter followed by EasyTag. I'm surprised that Amarok was the only program that did all of this automatically when you transferred music to the mp3-player.

This summer there was a GSoC project which implemented transcoding for amarok2. It will be merged into amarok git soon.
