First of all portage complains about amarok blocking the latest version of mysql:

Amarok is built with embedded, lastfm and opengl use flags. I have mysql-5.0.90-r2 with berkdb, community, embedded, perl, ssl, use flags.
Amarok scans my directories for music files, and the collection is still empty. Is there an issue with mysql?
Here are some infos about my system:

I experienced this problem a few weeks ago, too. I could resolve it by deleting current.xspf (the playlist) and collection.scan.files (the index of your collection) in ~/.kde4/share/apps/amarok. Afterwards, rescan your collection and it should work now. For being on the safe side, better backup these two files first.
Best regards,

Mysql-5.1 does not work with embedded use flag
So you have 2 options:
1. stick with mysql-5.0 and embedded
2. update mysql, remerge amarok with USE="-embedded" and setup external mysql server.
Hate the options? You are not alone. If only clementine would be a bit more mature, it's lightning fast and looks very, very nice. _________________ "Coincidence is God's way of remaining anonymous."

Masked all versions of mysql greater than 5.0, and chose to use the embedded database.
Clementine looks nice. Does it use sqlite to handle music collection? |

It looks like it does. Clementine has no db use flags to set.
Well, I need a better playlist management (at least saving them) and rating. As soon as that will be implemented, I think again of switching completely. Amarok gets a real pita sometimes _________________ "Coincidence is God's way of remaining anonymous."
