Hi. Today I started experience trouble with my 32-bit Gentoo running on my home router. It began when I got some evidence that my cron scheduled "emerge --sync" was not operating properly. I attempted to run emerge --sync manual, but each attempt would eventually die with an error like so:

error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12)

My subsequent Google research was inconclusive, but I suspected there might be a broken dependency. I was going to run revdep-rebuild, but I thought first I would run "emerge -vauND world" just to get everything up to date. About 20 or so packages needed to be rebuilt or updated.

Most of this went fine, but eventually it died with this:

Code:
 * ERROR: sys-devel/gcc-4.3.4 failed:
 *   emake failed with bootstrap-lean

 * Call stack:

 *
 * If you need support, post the output of 'emerge --info =sys-devel/gcc-4.3.4',

 * S: '/var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/gcc-4.3.4/work/build'

I thought I should step back and get some guidance before continuing. Here is the output mentioned by the above error message:

It looks like you added "hardened" in your USE flag, or it comes from you not having a rsync done in while. not sure. Which profile are you running ? did it need update may be ?

Also I think you can do a manual rsync by downloading the portage tree.

remove -fomit-frame-pointer and retry.
