Hi,
I have a GeForce 8400 GS graphics card, happily using the nvidia drivers. I can even edit AVCHD content in kdenlive without major problems, so I my setup can't be too wrong. 
But VDPAU accaleration won't work with mplayer, ffplay or other media players.  When I try

Sorry, some of the output is in German, but I think you get the message.

Hi,
sorry for the above posting! It looks like I don't have any problem with mplayer at all. 
I only had vdpau blocked by kdenlive because I did some video editing before. And as editing AVCHD with VDPAU acceleration is bleeding edge, it's not yet rock stable (but great, great stuff already). So I struggled against a ghost for hours last night, and today (after rebooting), everything's fine.
Anyway, while playing around with smplayer, I found that I had to fiddle with audio sync because video playback was too slow. Then I found the option "Korrigiere PTS" ("correct PTS"?) and tried it out. Yes, now everything's perfect!
