|
|
I'm trying to build gentoo on an iMac G5 20", to breathe new life back into an otherwise good device.
I got the kernel configured, and I've gotten it (the kernel and modules) to successfully compile and build, copied it into place,
but when I try to emerge syslogd, I get this: http://cl1p.net/sysklogdoutput/
The output of emerge --info =dev-util/pkgconfig-0.23 is: http://cl1p.net/sysklogd/
I have tried to emerge other things which also similarly fail, which leads me to believe that there is something wrong with my make.conf?
my make.conf looks like this: http://pastebin.com/iGbxhVDA
I have also tried it with the -mcpu=g5 and the -mtune=g5
I'm not sure what other information I can give exactly, but I would love any help/suggestions
Thanks!

I changed my make.conf a bit due to a suggestion by desultory pointing at http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-2354154.html#2354154
I can now compile packages, but when I try to compile the kernel it fails, make output: http://pastebin.com/LWvMEEtE
any ideas? I've tried to just use the genkernel, but I think the gentoo PPC handbook is broken... http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-ppc.xml?part=1&chap=7 under 7.d Using Genkernel, it tells you to | Code: | | zcat /proc/config.gz > /usr/share/genkernel/ppc/kernel-config-2.6 |
but when I do so it outputs | Code: | | bash: /usr/share/genkernel/ppc/kernel-config-2.6: No such file or directory |
I'm pretty much at a loss for what to do. I'm sure I'm followed the handbook 100% thus far. The last time I installed Gentoo was 2004 on a brand new amd64 box, which I must say was much easier.

I don't really recommend using genkernel on PowerPC. For a G5, just type this in the kernel directory:
Using this configuration [/code]will result in a kernel capable of booting your iMac. Good luck! _________________ Gentoo PPC FAQ: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml |
