I've read that mol can do games, but how true is that? Will it do quake3 at a playable rate? warcraft3? I'm kind of surprised at this -- VMware seemed way too slow for me to even think about running a game on it.

Hmm, come to think of it, does anyone have a comparison of how fast MoL would be compared to VMware?

I don't know about speed comparisons, but opengl games won't work under mol.

homar: thanks for the reply

neenee: MoL is Mac on Linux -- basically, it's a virtual machine that ONLY runs on linux/ppc. Inside MoL, you can (theoretically) run any OS that can run on regular PPC hardware - Mac OS 9, Mac OS X, linux/ppc, or anything else that would boot on a regular powermac (presumably other ppc systems as well, although I'm not sure how well this has been tested.).

MOL does many (older) games quite well, StarCraft, Diablo 2 in software mode (yes, over internet/LAN to)... Well, any kind of 2D game or 3D games with good software fallback. Strategy games (all Civ, MOO2, HOMM), Ambrosias... you get the point.

But run them on MacOS 9.2.2, that's much faster than OSX on MOL I think!

Samuel Rydh said, the the performace would be less around 20% as native.
So, it depends on the requirments of the games and to your hardware....

Infinity. Or NaN.

VMware doesn't run on PPCs.

MoL is the VMware equivalent.

Bochs on PPC is slow. Virtual PC on PPC is slow.
