This is not a Gentoo project.
Gentoo-wiki.com is not a Gentoo project? It uses the Gentoo name and the Gentoo logo.

That is not a Gentoo project. Anybody can decide to use our name and logo, even against our wishes (altho legal action is possible in certain cases). It doesn't make it an official Gentoo project.

So yngwin, what do you think about these 2 urls ?

The wiki.gentoo.org url is consistent with Gentoo usage.

I want join to this project as editor, congratulations to gentoo for this new project.

So now I have a question. Is possible that the wiki be translated into other languages?

We are very interested in having translations for the wiki to as many languages as possible, and are investigating on how best to achieve that.

You can join us on #gentoo-wiki on freenode where we discuss this issue and others that relate to the wiki.
Thanks for offering help! :)

Already done. This is what it looks like: http://www.aaronshi.com/gentoo/mainindex.html

It was all finished, fixed and voted for in 2005. Yes, 5 years ago!

I have to agree with gentoo-dev on this one. whether it is an offical project or not, I doubt anyone cares we already have a wiki for gentoo. Honestly though I think it's more important to rework the gentoo homepage and finish coding packages.gentoo.org (it needs a search function). But if you guys really want to have an official wiki page I will support it although I think there are more important things to be worked on ATM.

i agree on some levels. gentoo.org definitely needs a revamp, as does packages.gentoo.org (it says soemthing when all the users are using gentoo-portage.com) but we have enough users to devote to all these projects. if there is an issue, its with delegating efficiently.

as for the design of the wiki, it should follow the same ui standards of the rest of the gentoo official pages. quite odd to have a completely different layout than the rest of the gentoo pages.

Do you mean with the same level of inconsistency between them all?
http://www.gentoo.org http://archives.gentoo.org http://planet.gentoo.org http://packages.gentoo.org look similar, but are not quite the same, are they?
https://bugs.gentoo.org https://forums.gentoo.org http://devmanual.gentoo.org look very different

Compare this to www.archlinux.org

I love the idea, if an official wiki.gentoo.org gets written I will write to it.

it's the original, just hosted on aaron shi's site rather than Gentoo. I'd rip it all quickly so it doesn't get lost

An official wiki sounds ok. maybe people will strive to add/keep more accurate data in it.

It's missing a transsexual cow. Gentoo has the equipment to please both sexes and it should be known.

you can tell the date that he was working on it because he ripped some of the front page information from that day:

Quote:
NOV 08 2004

Gentoo Weekly Newsletter
The results from the first Gentoo User Survey are published, reports the Gentoo Weekly Newsletter. Italian Gentoo users and developers are getting ready for their big "G-Day" event on 27 November. Other news include digests from the Gentoo user and developer mailing lists, a clever tip for those wanting a leaner system, and the "Gentoo in the press" section made a peculiar catch this week. Four new developers have joined the Gentoo team, one, sadly, has left, both announcements are also in this week's GWN.

So what is the correct version? Knurt or Znurt

Test wiki is at http://gentoowiki.a3li.li/index.php?title=Special:RecentChanges

Last edit was 14th April.

What they've achieved:
- Install and configure mediawiki
- Discuss which implementation of captcha at extreme length (despite advice from an admin of the unofficial wiki that captcha will make very little difference to the amount of spam as it mostly comes from registered and often verified accounts)
- Started thinking about things like deletion policies, and added a few links to other wikis, but no discussion or drafting.

No mission statement or guidance as to what should go into the wiki; No templates; No basic indexing / category structure

Summary: In 3 weeks the collective of developers have achieved about 30 minutes of work on the official wiki.

Conclusion: The project was stillborn.

It seems they really discuss this to death.
I understand that coordinating a team, thinking bout legal implications for Gentoo itself etc. needs time, something the unofficial wiki did not need to, yet, indeed after three weeks and a man power of 12 devs and 6 aiding users, this seems kind of slow.
