|

In Writing CD/DVD is blocking system, Massimo B. wrote: | Everytime I write CDs or DVDs under KDE using k3b the complete system is blocked and not responsive anymore. Sometimes I still can switch virtual desktops but no application is usable. I even can't switch to console like CTRL+Alt+F1. After CDs are written completely the system responses as usual.
What could be the issue for this blocking?
It is a PowerPC laptop with internal IDE Double Layer writer. |
Will PATA_MACIO which seems to come with 2.6.33 bring a solution? Or is something ppc-specifically misconfigured here? _________________ HP ZBook Power 15.6" G8 i7-11800H|HP EliteDesk 800G1 i7-4790|HP Compaq Pro 6300 i7-3770

Although this smells like what Hopeless mentioned in the other thread, does this also happen if you use any other burning software, say bashburn f.ex. ?
In my powerbook the hd is hda and the cd drive is hdc, which means they are both set as master in separate IDE channels.
Dmesg should tell you how they are attached in yours but if the dvd drive is detected as hdb it looks quite obvious that it is in the same channel as the hd.

I cannot remember when I opened the PowerBook once. I just remember that when I upgraded the iBook with a CD-writer long time ago I needed to search for a modell being able to work as slave since there only one cable connected hd and cd.
Which PowerBook generation do you own? Maybe this is some kind of cost-cutting measure of Apple for the later models. Mine is the very latest PBook.
Anyway wouldn't like to see there is no software work-around since OSX can do the job. _________________ HP ZBook Power 15.6" G8 i7-11800H|HP EliteDesk 800G1 i7-4790|HP Compaq Pro 6300 i7-3770 |

mine is :
Code: | cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0
cpu : 7447A, altivec supported
clock : 1333.333000MHz
revision : 1.1 (pvr 8003 0101)
bogomips : 73.72
timebase : 18432000
platform : PowerMac
model : PowerBook5,4
machine : PowerBook5,4
motherboard : PowerBook5,4 MacRISC3 Power Macintosh
detected as : 287 (PowerBook G4 15")
pmac flags : 0000001b
L2 cache : 512K unified
pmac-generation : NewWorld
Memory : 1536 MB |
i would open the pb and have a close look because i really doubt it only has one IDE channel.
Maybe lowering the write speed ( or some other software trick as you said) helps ? What happens if you burn from a console using bashburn f.ex. ?
Hopefully it just is kde/k3b doing sth. stupid after all.
