I could not find anything on this. Sorry if it is already addressed.
I read the USE chapter in the Gentoo handbook and the small section in the initial installation section of the Gentoo handbook. I still have questions. Haven't been able to wrap my head around this USE stuff yet.
Is there more documentation that will get more simplified about how to setup the USE variable? The cookies are a little out of my reach at the moment. IOW bring the cookies down to the lower shelf so everyone can get some. _________________ SupportTrainingOpenSourceSoftwareService |

| Start with the ones you think you need. Then add more as you find you need more. That worked for me. |

Me, too.
@stosss, start with the following three thoughts:- Choose the correct profile and a good set of default USE flag choices are made for you.
- You don't really have to sweat it all that much because you can reinstall all packages affected by a USE flag change with "emerge --update --deep --newuse world". (See "man emerge" for more details.)
- I wrote an explanation a few years ago on some of the philosophy behind USE flags. Check it out.
After reading that last, if you still have questions, then post back.

I recommend that you use the desktop profile, because it has a set of pretty good use flags.
So, it's a good start. _________________ Sysadmin of Funtoo-Québec.org
