If you are a scientist and publish/report your data as graphs of any sort please post your experience and preference with linux software you use.
My journey started with MS Excel, then OpenOffice (Calculator). Are there better options out there which allow me to modify the axes in more detail, etc? |

Try gnuplot, and run through the demos. It does a lot. _________________ amightywind |

I've found for my work that R does a nice job. I'm a novice at it, but I love the plots. Colleagues rely on its ggplot libraries which let you really get fancy.
Best,

I use matplotlib, and have received compliments from my colleagues on how beautiful the plots look. It can export the plots to a variety of raster and vector image formats (e.g., PDF, SVG, PNG).
It is Python only, and part of the scipy suite. scipy seeks to replace the functionality of IDL and Matlab with something open source, and by using Python it offers a full-fledged language that has bindings to many toolkits. Howver, Python is still easy to use interactively and there are nice terminals available. (Implicit array math is handled by numpy.)
Also, if you like LaTeX and want to make snazzy posters, check out the beamerposter package. (My thread about beamerposter, with ebuild.) _________________ Personal overlay | Simple backup scheme |

Well I have matlab at work... however I am finding myself exporting data from simulink more and more to post-process in python. Matlab-script just isn't flexible enough _________________
