I believe that this has more of a focus on mobile devices and gps tagging than MyFace. I'm still not 100% sure what it is good for. _________________ When harmonious relationships dissolve

looks like it is a means to 'funnel' data you place on the web concerning your life, add to that a means to explain your self (messaging), and integration with other gmail services.
not only is this not new or groundbreaking, it isn't at all interesting. I bet it is the backbone behind google's newfound love for content proving on mobile devices (namely, ones that it has stake in). _________________ The Dose Makes the Poison |

I doubt that it has to do with the phone, I could possibly be the other way around. From what I see, Google's objective is to index everything and everyone. "Don't be evil" as an unofficial slogan is right. They are not the executors, they just collect and provide the data. So what if they released a phone that would tie in so close to their system that every bit would be collected and analyzed and indexed? _________________ When harmonious relationships dissolve

everyone is trying to make it so you have one central communication hub. some of them are trying to make it so that you stay inside their ecosystem. others are trying to pull what you do outside the ecosystem in. the problem is that most of the sites that don't care if anyone copies data out of their ecosystem aren't large enough to make demands (random blogs), and the ones that are large enough scream, kick, and threaten lawsuits everyone tries to remove something from the garden (facebook).
lots of internet guys don't understand that you can do the same thing as someone else, but if they're bigger than you, they might get paid for what you have to pay for. size and attention creates value. |

yep that is exactly what they want to do. their business depends on it, and they are damn good at it. They still rely on you to go out and purchase such a phone, and for you to create gmail accounts and buzz accounts, etc...
the underlying truth is this: we [google] offer you unprecedented data harvesting and indexing skills, however such knowledge works both ways. you must inherently relinquish certain pieces of seemingly private information (browing history, certain forms of hosted communication) to essentially just shy of public domain.
if this bothers you, then don't use their services. It is the best you can do. You have to admit that the indexing and harvesting of data, in this society, has become almost a necessary evil due to the convenience and luxury we desire from our digital devices.
you want wireless gadgets and doodads? fine, but remember there is always someone listening in, for better or for worse. _________________ The Dose Makes the Poison |

It's basically Google's version of twitter. Be nice if it would let me connect to Facebook. It will connect to twitter, but it only pulls data in, it won't let me post to or from twitter. _________________ Joe Mulloy | http://twitter.com/jdmulloy | Ron Paul in 2012! | 5-1-07 | Unban Playfool | Fire your "Too big to fail" bank http://moveyourmoney.info |

It looks cool, however I have a really annoying problem with Google that I am not alone in...
I signed up to a Gmail account when they first came out, and I was using this as much as possible: Gmail, Reader, Analytics, Docs, Calendar, etc. A couple of years ago I signed up to Google Apps for Your Domain, and started migrating a few things over to here (Mail, Calendar), I also setup forwarding from my old Gmail account to my new Mail account. However this resulted in an issue. Whenever I try to log into things such as Reader or Wave, even if I enter me@mydomain.com as the login, I am automatically logged in with my Gmail account. The same happens with Buzz. This wasn't too much of an issue, until I got a Google phone, and now I am really noticing the segregation between them. Is there any way to fix it, other than migrating everything back to my Gmail account? _________________ :: Luca :: Mac Fag :: Original Macbook, 2g RAM :: Closet Linux user (seasoned with salt and pepper) :: C2D E4400 @ 2ghz, 4g RAM (only 3.2g detected under 64bit...), Nvidia 9600GSO :: |
