|
|
I am currently using a hosted MS Exchange Account for my email. It's worked out well. Using OWA & my BlackBerry gives me a lot of flexibility when I'm on the road. However, I couldn't get Evolution to connect to my account. I've been down the road of asking for help from the hosting provider but they just give me "linux, not supported". So, rather than argue with them I am open to switching providers.
Does anyone have any recommendations of a hosting company that does support linux clients? Would I have to be looking at open-xchange hosters instead?
Anyway, just throwing this out there in case anyone has been in my shoes before and has made a move similar to my situation |

Have you read up on the new MAPI extensions for evolution? Exchange integration is just around the corner. I have not found an overlay for this yet, so you would have to build it yourself if you are on gentoo.
Does your service provider offer a pop or imap connector?
Are you looking for a email (pop/imap/smtp) service? or are you looking for a mail/calendar/task/gal/etc. service? _________________ When harmonious relationships dissolve

Gmail supports IMAP access, so you can use Evolution, Thunderbird, Kmail, or many other clients for that. Of course you have to agree to them analyzing your e-mail for targeted advertising, but if you're reading your mail via Evolution you won't see the ads anyway. |

I was just looking at this too. There is an update for Gnome 2.28 it seems: evolution-exchange-2.28.2 is in portage.
So maybe you need to update Gnome ( ? ).
Apart from that. For my private email I use GMail...

I'm pretty sure that the evolution-exchange plugin uses the outlook web access rather than MAPI, but it might do what you need.

Oops... wrong forum sorry. My issue is really that my exchange hosting company will not support/help me figure out why evolution can't connect. I tried the MAPI plugin but it didn't work - according to all the guides I've read I had the settings correct.
I'm not a big fan of Google. I used GMail for a couple years until I found my investment ticker symbols showing up in places I didn't really like to see. Whether it comprises anything, I doubt it. I'm just not a fan of how they mine and present it to me - makes me feel like they're doing whatever the *ell they want to with my personal information and I have no say. So, I'm ok with paying for private hosting.
I've thought about just setting up an email server myself but the cost of static IPs from DSL/Cable providers is not worth it. I don't really want to fiddle with dynamic DNS. So hosting is fine. I'm just looking for a hosting company that supports linux based "rich" clients. OWA just doesn't cut it for me when it comes to calendar management. |

What about Google Apps? They don't do ads if you pay for it. Not sure if they look at it or not though. You could try finding a provider that uses Zimbra. _________________ Joe Mulloy | http://twitter.com/jdmulloy | Ron Paul in 2012! | 5-1-07 | Unban Playfool | Fire your "Too big to fail" bank http://moveyourmoney.info |
